Donald W. Keister, 87, Mifflinburg
Donald William Keister, 87, of 1480 Forest Hill Rd., for the past 53 years, entered into rest at 11:45 a.m., Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at his home.
He was born October 29, 1925, in Mifflinburg, a son of the late David and Mary E. (Hackenberg) Keister. On June 30, 1947, in Weikert, he married the former Florence L. Cromley, who survives.
Donald was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Mifflinburg.
He served in the Navy during World War II from January 25, 1944 until his honorable discharge on May 8, 1946.
Donald owned and operated the Keister's Middleburg Livestock Auction and the Keister's Middleburg Farmers Market for 21 years until he retired in 1994. Earlier in life, he was employed at the Mifflinburg Farmers Exchange, and was a livestock dealer for many years.
He enjoyed hunting, traveling to Canada to fish, and family gatherings.
Donald was a founding member of the Rapid Run Rod and Gun Club, Mifflinburg.
Surviving in addition to his wife of nearly 66 years, are one son, Dennis W. Keister and his fiance Brandi Snook of Mifflinburg; one daughter, Deborah A. Shaffer of Mifflinburg; two grandchildren, Dakota Shaffer and Tiffany Shaffer, both of Mifflinburg; one brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Diane Keister of Williamsport; and one sister, Betty Troxell of Mifflinburg.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Keister and Walter Keister; one sister, Annie Dersham; and one son-in-law, Anthony "Tony" Shaffer.
Family and friends are welcome from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday, and 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Tuesday, at the Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Rd., Mifflinburg, where the funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m., with Rev. Paula Gustafson, officiating.
Burial will be in the Lewisburg Cemetery, with military honors by the Mifflinburg American Legion Post 410.
