Alma S. Moyer, 93, Mifflinburg
Alma Shoemaker Moyer, 93, of 98 E. Market St., since 1984, entered into rest at 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 11, 2013, at Riverwoods, Lewisburg.
She was born February 11, 1920, in Mifflinburg, a daughter of the late Clarence F. and Mary E. (Miller) Shoemaker. On October 18, 1941, in Mifflinburg, she married Elwood H. Moyer, who preceded her in death March 13, 1974.
Alma was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Mifflinburg where she served as Sunday School treasurer, council member, youth group advisor and was active in the Good Fellowship Class and the Fellowship Guild. She was also active in the community as a charter member of the Mifflinburg Civic Club and was a 50- year member of the Eastern Star.
She was a 1938 graduate of Mifflinburg High School. In 1939 she was awarded Comptometer Business Machine Certification in Washington, DC. During Elwood's war-time service, she was employed as a clerk typist at Kessler Field in Biloxi, Mississippi and at City Hall in Tuscon, Arizona.
Alma was also employed as a stenographer, bookkeeper and teller at Mifflinburg Bank & Trust Co. for more than 30 years until she retired in 1986. In retirement, she continued to use her accounting skills on a part-time basis.
Among her many talents and passions were family and friends, reading, handwork and crafts and baking and cooking. All were assured of good food and good company in her presence.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Janet E. and Gary E. Hackenberg of Mifflinburg; two sisters, Mary Kathryn Ruhl of Mifflinburg, and Margaret E. Smith of Lewisburg; one grandson, Adam R. and his wife Marijane Hackenberg of Doylestown; and two great grandchildren, Theodore E. Hackenberg, and Mary Katherine Hackenberg.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Miller Shoemaker; and three sisters, Lorene Alexander, Lena Johnson, and Carolyn Dale.
In lieu of a public viewing, family and friends are welcome from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Saturday, at St. John's United Church of Christ, 417 Market St., Mifflinburg, where the funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m., with Rev. Susan Gabbard, officiating.
Burial will be in the Mifflinburg Cemetery.
