Alvin E. Sherwood, 89, Lewisburg
Alvin Eugene Sherwood, 89, of 166 Gessner Rd., since 1959, entered into rest at 5:27 a.m., Thursday, August 7, 2014, at his home.
He was born September 15, 1924, in Wolf Township, Lycoming County, a son of the late Henry and Virgie (Vognetz) Sherwood. On August 15, 1959, in Lewisburg, he married the former Mildred J. (Gessner) Pfleegor, who survives.
Alvin was a 1941 graduate of Montgomery High School.
He was an active member of the Buffalo Valley United Methodist Church, Lewisburg, where he assisted with the grounds keeping and maintenance.
Alvin was employed at ACF Industries, Milton, for 27 years.
He enjoyed taking his family camping, hosting family gatherings with his wife at their home, and playing dominoes with his friends.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 55 years, are one son and daughter-in-law, Gary A. and Sandra Pfleegor of Lewisburg; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda E. and Marvin D. Clayton of Lewisburg, and Rebecca J. and Edward B. Moyer of Mifflinburg; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jason and Irene Sherwood of Montandon, and Edmund and Thelma Sherwood of Northumberland; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Eleanor and Carson Wagner of Watsontown, and Maxine and Al Krantz of Indiana; 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 1 great-great granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Cynthia Ann Pfleegor Witmer; two brothers, Frederick, and Warren Sherwood; and two sisters, Lois Flick, and Mildred Campbell.
Family and friends are welcome from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, at the Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Rd., Miffllinburg, and from 10 to 10:30 a.m., Monday, at the Buffalo Valley United Methodist Church, 954 Johnson Mill Rd., Lewisburg, where the funeral will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., with Rev. Daniel H. Hicks, officiating.
Burial will be in the Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery.
