Benjamin Faunce, Iii

November 24, 1933 — February 19, 2018

Benjamin “Ben” Franklin Faunce, III, 84, most recently of Fulton County, entered into eternal rest on February 19, 2018 at The Manor at Penn Village, Selinsgrove.

He was born November 24, 1933, in Johnstown, a son of the late Ethel (Ferree) Faunce and Benjamin Faunce Jr. He grew up in Coraopolis, and attended Mercersburg Academy. After several years of study at The University of Pennsylvania, he enlisted in the US Army and served his country in the Korean War. Upon his return, Ben completed his studies at the University of Pittsburgh receiving a BA and a BS in Engineering.  During his years at Pitt, Ben met the love of his life, Betty Gail Wickerham. They married at Heinz Chapel on December 26, 1959, and later were blessed with four children.

Ben worked as an engineer for years before returning to school to acquire two master’s degrees and becoming a college professor. He taught at both Virginia Tech and Purdue University. He and his wife became members of the McConnellsburg Presbyterian church when they retired to Fulton County.

Ben found joy in his art. He painted, sculpted and created works that both received awards and brought others joy. Ben designed and built his own home. He enjoyed domestic travel and had camped in almost every state in the country. Ben was a loving father, devoted husband and an inspiration to his grandchildren.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 58 years, are three children and their spouses, Bruce Faunce and Jessica Mesa of Costa Rica, Beth Faunce and Jon Burns of Selinsgrove, Brooke Faunce-Grimm and George Grimm, III of Everett; and six grandchildren, Riley Faunce, Conrad Faunce, Arthur Burns, Greta Burns, Cora Faunce-Grimm, and Jannina Faunce Holzinger.

He is preceded in death by his son Benjamin Faunce, IV.
A private memorial service will be conducted at the convenience of the family.

Funeral arrangements are by Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Rd., Mifflinburg.
