Carl Sampsell

May 28, 1928 — January 17, 2016

LAURELTON – Carl “Bup” William Sampsell, of 1656 State Route 235, for 65 years, entered into rest at 5:45 a.m., Sunday, January 17, 2016, at Watsontown Health and Rehab Center.

He was born May 28, 1928, in Laurelton, a son of the late Harry and Frances (Schnure) Sampsell.  On September 2, 1950, in Northumberland United Methodist Church, he married the former Jeanne Zerbe, who preceded him in death August 30, 2015.

Bup graduated in 1946, as valedictorian and class president, of the last graduating class of Hartley Township High School.

He was a member of the Christ’s United Lutheran Church, Millmont, where he served as usher, greeter, and counted collection money.

Bup served in the Army National Guard in Korea during the Korean War from January 23, 1951 until his honorable discharge May 9, 1952.

He owned and operated Sampsell’s Barber Shop, Laurelton, for 60 years.

Bup was a 60 year member of the Free and Accepted Masons Lodge #370, Mifflinburg, Williamsport Consistory, charter member of the Union County Historical Society, Mifflinburg American Legion Post 410, Buffalo Valley Sportsmen’s Association, Mifflinburg, Union County Sportsmen’s Club, Weikert, and the Bear Run Hunting Camp.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time with his family, and traveling with his wife.

Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Carol J. and Kevin Valentine of Watsontown; one son and daughter-in-law, Steven D. and Diane Sampsell of Laurelton; 5 grandchildren, Scott Valentine, Carla Snook, Jonica Sampsell, Katie Sampsell, and Jenelle Spickler; 2 step grandchildren, Landra Hopkins and Richie Wright; 11 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; three brothers and one sister-in-law, Myron “Mick” Sampsell of Lewisburg, Harold “Hap” Sampsell of Naples, Florida, and David “Nut” and Ada Sampsell of Mifflinburg.

Family and friends are welcome from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, where a masonic service will be conducted at 7:45, and also from 1 to 2 p.m., Wednesday, at the Christ’s United Lutheran Church, 13765 Old Turnpike Rd., Millmont, where the funeral will be conducted at 2, with Rev. John D. Yost, officiating.

Burial will be in the Hartleton Cemetery, with military honors by Mifflinburg American Legion Post 410 and area veterans.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Christ’s United Lutheran Church, 13765 Old Turnpike Rd., Millmont, PA 17845.
