Charles E. “Junior” Mattern, 74, of Mifflinburg, crossed over the great threshold at 10:41 p.m., Friday, January 11, 2019, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.
He was born August 29, 1944, in Penns Creek, a son of the late Charles E., Sr. and Geraldine E. (Napp) Mattern.
Charles attended Mifflinburg High School.
He worked in carpentry and construction while living in West Virginia, Arizona, and Pennsylvania. Charles received his masters degree in soil science from Bloomsburg University. He traveled to Ecuador and Russia to study soil science.
Charles was a member of the Kreamer Rod and Gun Club from 2005 to 2017.
Charles cared for his mother, Geraldine Mattern, for 20 years before her passing.
Surviving are three sons, Jesse Mattern of Middleburg, William Mattern of McClure, and Caleb Mattern of Berwick; two daughters, Valerie Mattern of Beavertown, and Dawn Keister of Beavertown; one brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Lindy Mattern of Mifflinburg; 11 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren.
Family and friends are welcome for a memorial gathering from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, at 60 East Market St., Mifflinburg.
