Christine Boop

Christine E. Boop, 78, Mifflinburg

Christine Elaine Boop, 78, a resident and native of Mifflinburg, entered into rest at 8:04 a.m., Friday, September 20, 2013, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.

She was born July 1, 1935, in Lewisburg, a daughter of the late Werner S. and Pauline C. (Christine) Boop.

Miss Boop was a very active member of the St. John's United Church of Christ, Mifflinburg. Her many activities and contributions to the church included being a deacon and elder for the church council, chairperson for the Parish Life committee, Sunday school teacher, member of the Capital Campaign committee, hostess for the Well Baby Clinic, and she was instrumental in planning many of the social events in the church. She was a generous and giving member of the church, and her kindness and contributions will be greatly missed.

She was a 1953 graduate of Mifflinburg High School, and 1957 graduate of Bloomsburg State College.

Miss Boop was employed as a 5th grade teacher at Avenel Street School, Avenel, New Jersey, for 36 years, until she retired in 1993. She was twice elected as best teacher in the district by her peers. Her chosen profession fit her perfectly, as she demonstrated unrelenting love of children that was reciprocated. Even after retirement, she volunteered her time and abilities at a local school district.

Miss Boop devoted her love and support to her family, friends, and students. Though she had no biological children, her kindness and generosity touched many in the community.

Surviving are two nephews, David and his wife Cheryl Boop of Columbus, Ohio, and Daniel and his wife Kimberly Boop of Lewisburg; and her dearest friends, Donna J. Bitner of Mifflinburg, Brian R. and Laurie Derr of Selinsgrove, Brett A. and Tracy Derr of Mifflinburg, and Tayla, Noah, Payton, and Tyson Derr; her lifelong friend, Ella-Louise Johnson of Sayre; and Carol Oberlin, who was her guardian angel.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Gordon C. Boop in 1994; one sister, Betty Lou Boop in 2007; and dear friend, Burke P. Derr in 1997.

Family and friends are welcome from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, at the Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Rd., Mifflinburg, and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Wednesday, at the St. John's United Church of Christ, 417 Market St., Mifflinburg, where the funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m., with Rev. Susan Gabbard, officiating.

Burial will be in the Mifflinburg Cemetery.
