David Reed

MIFFLINBURG – David W. Reed, 76, of 642 Walnut St., entered into eternal rest at 11:05 a.m., Friday, March 6, 2015, at his home.

He was born January 6, 1939, in Lewisburg, a son of the late William Herbert and Beatrice Evelyn (Watson) Reed.

David was a 1957 graduate of Mifflinburg High School.  He graduated from Thompson Business College, Harrisburg, majoring in business administration.

He was a faithful member of the Christ’s United Lutheran Church, Millmont, where he served on the church council and as a greeter, and enjoyed assisting with the Lenten breakfasts and social events.

After graduating from college, David was employed as the office manager at the YMCA in Sunbury, and then for Farmers Pennsupreme Ice Cream Plant, Dewart.  Later, he was employed at Milton Manufacturing, in the accounting office for 10 years.  Most recently, he worked at Wal-Mart, Lewisburg, for seven years, until he retired in January.

He was an owner of the Buggy Town, USA, Restaurant, Mifflinburg, was owner and operator of the Hidden Valley Camping Resort, Mifflinburg, and owned and operated the Little Red Hen Restaurant, Lewisburg, where he developed his Little Red Hen mustard.

David was a founding member of the Mifflinburg Buggy Museum, served on the Republican Committee of West Buffalo Township, a member of the Union County Planning Commission, served on the Union County Waste Authority, and the Union County Tourism Committee.

He was a member of the Free & Accepted Masonic Lodge 370, Mifflinburg, and the Williamsport Consistory, with a 32nd Degree.  David was a member of the Lewisburg Chamber of Commerce, Union County Historical Society, Buffalo Valley Sportsmen’s Association, Mifflinburg, and the Circle M Saddle Club, Millmont.

David enjoyed antiques, traveling, horses, neighborhood gatherings, social time with his family and friends.  He was a man of strong devotion and read the Bible daily and his faith guided the way he lived his life.

Surviving are nieces and nephews, Daphine and Jason Fritz, Deitre and Jeff Loss, and Dwayne and Shayne Reed, all of Mifflinburg; great nieces and nephews, Bryana Loss, Brooke Loss, Jonathan Fritz, and Sarah Fritz, Madison Reed, Cora Reed, and Clayton Reed;  and one brother and sister-in-law, DuFrane and Barbara Reed of Mifflinburg.

There will be no public viewing.  Family and friends are welcome from 1 to 2 p.m., Wednesday, at the Christ’s United Lutheran Church, 13765 Old Turnpike Rd., Millmont, where the funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m., with Rev. John Yost, officiating.

Burial will be in the Mifflinburg Cemetery.
