Eleanor Hoy

Eleanor Ruth (Hoffman) Hoy, of 100 E. Walnut St., since 1994, entered into rest Saturday evening, December 7, 2013, at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, Lewisburg.

She was born September 11, 1930, in Lewis Township, Union County, in the home of her grandparents, Cyrus L. and Cottie Mae Ruhl Eberhart. She was the daughter of the late Maynard Elwood and Mildred Elizabeth (Eberhart) Hoffman.

On April 29, 1965, at the First Lutheran Church, Mifflinburg, she married Donald F. Hoy, who survives.

Eleanor was a graduate of the last graduating class of the Hartley Township High School, Laurelton, in 1948.

Before marriage, she was employed at the Laurelton State School, Culp's Meat Market, Mifflinburg, Acme Market, Mifflinburg, and later owned and operated a Beauty Salon in Hartleton from 1958 to 1965.

She will be well-remembered for her knitting. She made over 100 Christmas stockings, many of which still hang in Mifflinburg homes. Additionally, many babies left Evangelical Hospital wrapped in blankets that were knit by Eleanor. Since 1975, she has worked on the genealogical lines of the Hoy, Hoffman, Eberhart, Ruhl and John Kleckner families.

Surviving in addition to her husband of 48 years, are one son and daughter-in-law, Eldon and Lori Hoy of Mifflinburg; two grandchildren, Zac Hoy and Kira Hoy, both of Mifflinburg; two step-children and their spouses, Donna L. (Hoy) and Bekind Guy of Conway, SC, and Kerwin W. and Donna Hoy, of Whiteville, NC; 5 step-grandchildren and 4 step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Forrest and Roger Hoffman.

Funeral services will be conducted privately.

In lieu of flowers, acccording to Eleanor's wishes, donations may be made to the Mifflinburg Boys' Basketball Club, Mifflinburg Area High School, 75 Market St., Mifflinburg, PA 17844, to support the team that she so loved to watch for many years.
