Elizabeth "Bettie" E. Zimmerman, 94, Lewisburg
Elizabeth "Bettie" Ernestine Zimmerman, 94, formerly of Milton, entered into rest at 3:34 a.m., Sunday, March 4, 2012, at Riverwoods, where she had been a resident since 2010.
She was born April 18, 1917, in Berwick, a daughter of the late Harry and Hester (Richart) Whitenight. On December 22, 1934, in Rochester, New York, she married Manley W. Zimmerman, who preceded her in death.
Bettie was a graduate of Rochester High School.
She was employed as an agent at Donald Martin Real Estate Agency, Livingston, New Jersey.
Bettie was a 76 year member of the Berwick Christian Church, where she served as assistant pianist, deaconess, and hostess for many visitors of the church. She also served as McHenarian Sunday School class president, treasurer, and chairperson of many committees.
She enjoyed vacationing in Florida in the winter and Old Forge, NY in the summers, embroidery work, reading, shopping, and playing cards.
Bettie was a member of the Order of Eastern Star in both Livingston, NJ, and Berwick.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Susan J. and Donald R. Sallade of Dubuque, Iowa; one granddaughter Laurel and her husband Matt Light of Rochester, Minnesota; one great grandson, Marcus Light; one sister, Helen Welkley of Walworth, New York; one lifelong friend, Martha Lawler of Berwick; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Herman, Zehnder, Donovan, and Benjamin Whitenight; and one sister, Leah Trescott.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Bettie will be announced at a later date.
