BEAVER SPRINGS - Elmer W. Seler, 89, formerly of 9154 Route 235 for 55 years, entered into rest at 6:25 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, Lewisburg, where he had resided since August 27.
He was born Feb. 2, 1920, in Lucknow, a son of the late Ira and Minnie (Ramp) Seler. On Feb. 16, 1942, in Towson, Md., he married the former Hazel L. Cole who preceded him in death on Sept. 7, 2006.
Elmer was a 1939 graduate of Susquehanna Township High School and a World War II veteran, serving in the Army from 1943 until his honorable discharge in 1945.
He was employed as a freight conductor for the Pennsylvania Railroad from 1941 to 1979.
Elmer was a member of the Mifflinburg Assembly of God Church, where he had served on the church board, and a life member of the McClure American Legion Post 942.
He is survived by five sons and four daughters-in-law, Terry L. and Dixie Seler, of San Antonio, Elmer W. Seler, Jr., Jeffrey L. and Vicki Seler, and Keith W. and Bonnie Seler, all of McClure, and Denny C. and Debby Seler, of Jamaica; two daughters and sons-in-law, Norma J. and Stanley Brengle, of Rockford, Ill., and Debbie A. and Dar Bobb, Jr., of Selinsgrove; 20 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Steven and David Seler; two brothers, Paul and Edwin Seler, and two great-grandchildren, Nicole Wright and Michael Schilling.
Visitors may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the Assembly of God Church, 1001 Market St., Mifflinburg, where the funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Denny Seler and the Rev. Johny Blake, officiating.
Burial will be in St. Peter's Independent Bible Church Cemetery, Beavertown, with military honors by the Mifflinburg American Legion Post 410..
