Elwood "Bop" Showalter

Elwood Lee “Bop” Showalter, 95, formerly of 89 Maple St., Mifflinburg, entered into rest at 10:45 a.m., Saturday, December 2, 2017, at the Emmanuel Center for Nursing and Rehab, Danville.

He was born February 10, 1922, in Millmont, a son of the late Clark A. and Ruth M. (Adams) Showalter.  On June 5, 1948, in Millmont, he married the former Leatha Haines, who survives.

Bop was a member of the Mifflinburg United Methodist Church.

He was a graduate of Mifflinburg High School.

Bop served in the Army during World War II from November 16, 1942 until his honorable discharge October 17, 1945.

He was employed as a correctional officer at U.S. Penitentiary, Lewisburg, from 1947 until he retired in 1975.

After retirement, he enjoyed tending to his garden, fishing with his nephew Terry in Canada, and visiting on the porch with family and friends.

Bop was a founding member of the Royal Order of R.O.F., a group of retired correctional officers who met monthly to talk about the good old days.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 69 years, are one daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Dave Roat of Mifflinburg; one son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Anne Showalter of Orange Park, Florida; four grandchildren and their spouses, Becky and Steve Heimbach of Lewisburg, Jeff and Mindy Roat of New Berlin, Christopher Showalter and his companion Vanessa Suarez of Orange Park, and Benjamin Showalter and his fiancé Melissa Sattazahn of Orlando, Florida; and two great grandchildren, Derrik and Maggie Roat.

The Showalter family expresses a special thank you to the staff of the Emmanuel Center, Danville, and Elmcroft, Lewisburg, for their excellent care.

Family and friends are welcome to a time of visitation from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., Sunday, December 17th,,  at the Mifflinburg United Methodist Church, 279 Market St., Mifflinburg, where a celebration of life service will be conducted at 2:30, with Rev. Shirley Cornell, officiating. Military honors will be by the Mifflinburg American Legion and area veterans.

Interment will be in the Mifflinburg Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are by Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Rd., Mifflinburg.
