Fred E. Derr, Jr., 71, Mifflinburg

Fred Eugene Derr, 71, a lifelong resident of 135 Zimmerman Rd., entered into rest surrounded by his sister, aunt and uncle, at 8:14 p.m., Sunday, May 1, 2011, at his home.

He was born August 6, 1939, in Limestone Township, Mifflinburg, a son of the late Fred E., Sr. and Agnes L. (Zimmerman) Derr.

Fred was a 1957 graduated of Mifflinburg High School.

He was a lifelong member of the Mifflinburg United Methodist Church.

Fred was employed at Agway, Mifflinburg, for many years. He operated his family farm on Zimmerman Road his entire life.

He was a member of the New Berlin Fire Company.

Fred enjoyed gardening at his home and was particularly proud of his tomato crop. He also enjoyed hunting, spending time with friends at Bing's Auto Body, Mifflinburg, and watching the Philadelphia Phillies. Some of Fred's most valuable time was spent watching his cousin, Luke Zimmerman, play baseball.

Surviving are one sister, Faylene A. Derr of Mifflinburg; uncle and aunts, John and Marian Zimmerman, and Mae Zimmerman, all of Mifflinburg; and numerous cousins.

Family and friends are welcome from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Wednesday, at the Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Rd., Mifflinburg, where the funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m., with Rev. Ronald Warfle, officiating.

Burial will be in the Mifflinburg Cemetery.
