George A. Hovey, 91, formerly of Meadow Green Drive, Mifflinburg, entered into rest at 6:40 p.m., Sunday, October 9, 2016, at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, Lewisburg.
Born February 18, 1925, in Cortland, New York, he was the son of the late Rev. Luke Willis and Pearl Lorena (Warn) Hovey. On September 16, 1946, at the Fairfield United Methodist Church, he married the former Dorothy M. Dennis, who survives.
George served during World War II in the European Theatre. At the conclusion of the World War II in Europe, he performed in the Army band that toured the United States. He continued his life long interest in music as a church choir member, most notably at the Fayetteville, NY and Fineview Wellsley Island, NY United Methodist Churches.
He was a graduate of the Candor NY High School (1942) and Cornell University (1949) with a degree in Food Services from the College of Agriculture.
While residing in Syracuse, NY and raising his family he was employed as a Sales Engineer for Mojonnier Brothers Co. of Chicago, selling and installing farm, dairy and beverage plant equipment.
After moving to Mifflinburg in 2003, George became a member of the Mifflinburg United Methodist Church, and the Mifflinburg Kiwanis Club.
George enjoyed walking, riding his bike, listening to music, and family visits at his retirement home along the St. Lawrence Seaway in the Thousand Islands, New York.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 70 years, are two sons and three daughters-in-law, Douglas W. and Karen C. Hovey of Mifflinburg, Scott A. and Ramona K. Hovey of Austin, Texas, and Maria E. Hovey of Morgan Hill, California; 7 grandchildren, Ian, Benjamin and his wife Rachel, Pablo, Diana, Nichole, Rachael, and Grant Hovey; and one great grandson, Arlo Hovey; and one sister, Evelyn Richards of Syracuse, New York, two nieces and three nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, George A. Hovey, Jr.; and two sisters, Joyce Engelke, and Betty Richards.
Family and friends are welcome from 11 a.m. to noon, Friday, at the Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Rd., Mifflinburg, where the funeral will be conducted at noon, with Pastor Marian K. Anderson, Chaplain of the Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, officiating.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m., Saturday, at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Candor, New York.
