G. Matilda "Tillie" Folk, 101, Millmont

Grace Matilda "Tillie" Folk, 101, a lifelong resident of Hartley Township and Lewis Township, and of 145 Hassenplug Rd., since 1983, entered into rest at 7:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 25, 2011, at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, Lewisburg.

She was born April 6, 1909 in Lewis Township, a daughter of the late Oliver and Alice (Benny) Catherman. On September 19, 1929, in Frederick, Maryland, she married Bruce S. Folk. He preceded her in death November 7, 1958.

Tillie was a 1926 graduate of Lewis Township High School. She attended Bloomsburg Teacher's College and Licensed Practical Nursing training at Danville State Hospital.

She was employed as a Practical Nurse at the Laurelton State Center for 23 years, until she retired in 1972. Tillie then took the test to become a Licensed Practical Nurse, just to prove to herself that she could do it.

Tillie was a member of the Providence Orthodox Presbyterian Church, Mifflinburg.

She was a member of the Ebenezer United Church of Christ, Laurelton, from 1935 until 2005, where she served as deacon, elder, Sunday school teacher, and played the piano and organ.

Tillie was a member of the Laurelton Women's Club, Hartley Township Community Center, Eastern Star, Mifflinburg, and volunteer for the American Red Cross.

She enjoyed quilting and embroidering.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Lyle "Pete" and Jean Folk of Galeton; one daughter, Ann Willard of Sunbury; one daughter-in-law, Beverly Folk of Mifflinburg; 9 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Vee Folk; one brother, Harold T. Catherman; and one granddaughter, Eugenie Slodeski.

Family and friends are welcome from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, at the Providence Orthodox Presbyterian Church, 325 Market St., Mifflinburg, where the funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m., with Rev. Stephen Payson, officiating.

Burial will be in the Hartleton Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Providence Orthodox Presbyterian Church, 325 Market St., Mifflinburg, PA 17844.

Funeral arrangements are by Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Rd., Mifflinburg.
