Herbert J. Barnes, 81, Lewisburg
Herbert Joseph Barnes, 81, of 220 Lamplight Lane, for the past 6 years, formerly of rural Pottstown, entered into rest at 4:15 a.m., Monday, September 13, 2010, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.
He was born November 16, 1928, in the Barnes family farm house in Susquehanna, the oldest of fourteen children of Raymond George and Lillian (DePoe) Barnes. On April 23, 1977, in the Truth Baptist Church, West Salem, Ohio, he married the former Mary A. Mesenhimer, who survives.
Herbert attended the Calvary Baptist Church, Mifflinburg.
He was a 1945 graduate of Susquehanna High School, and attended Penn State University for three years.
Herbert was employed in the public works department for Conrail for 40 years until he retired in 1990.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 33 years, are three sons and daughters-in-law, David A. and Misty Barnes of Timberlake, NC, Mark J. and Rebbecca Barnes of Cedar Grove, TN, and James C. and Sarah Barnes of Houston, TX; one daughter, Robin L. Bowersox of New Berlin; two step-sons and one step-daughter-in-law, Rev. Leland and Sandy Hall of Long Island, NY, and Donald E. Hall and his sweethart Stephanie Pigeon of Spring City, PA; one step-daughter and step-son-in-law, Brenda J. and Phil Noland of Ashtabula, OH; 17 grandchildren; and 1 great grandson.
Family and Friends are welcome from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, at the Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Rd., Mifflinburg, and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Friday, at the Calvary Baptist Church, 332 E. Chestnut St., Mifflinburg, where the funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m., with Pastor Shawn A. Mclain, officiating.
Burial will be in the Chestnut Hills Cemetery, Winfield.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church, Parking Lot Fund, 332 E. Chestnut St., Mifflinburg, PA 17844.
