Ira John Benfer, 92, of Mifflinburg, entered into rest at 8:40 a.m., Friday, February 16, 2024, at Rolling Hills Manor, Millmont.
He was born May 20, 1931, in Winfield, a son of the late Ira Paul and Esther (Renninger) Benfer. On July 10, 1971, he married the former Helen Shuck, who survives.
John attended Vicksburg schools.
He was a member of the Lincoln Chapel United Methodist Church, Laurelton, where he served as a trustee and assisted with church events.
John was the owner and operator of Benfer’s Electric, Mifflinburg.
He was a member of the Free & Accepted Masons Lodge #370, Mifflinburg, the Williamsport Consistory, and the Milton Royal Arch Chapter #298.
John enjoyed gardening at his home, word searching, watching the Philadelphia Phillies, and spending time with his family.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 52 years, are one son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Susan Benfer of Millmont; two granddaughters, Vicki Benfer of New Berlin, and Caroline Benfer of Millmont; one daughter-in-law, Jill Benfer of New Berlin; one brother, Robert Benfer of Milton; two sisters, Shirley Marotto of Northumberland, and Nancy Straub of Winfield.
He was preceded in death by one son, John S. Benfer; and one grandson, Jason Benfer; one brother, Franklin Benfer; and four sisters, Mary Boop, Dorothy Ward, Martha Anderson, and Barbara Ellis.
Family and friends are welcome to a time of visitation from 2 to 3 p.m., Saturday, February 24, at the Lincoln Chapel United Methodist Church, Laurelton, where the funeral service will be conducted at 3, with Pastor Betty Ann Berry, officiating. A Masonic service will be conducted by the Mifflinburg Free & Accepted Masonic Lodge #370.
Burial will be in the Hartleton Cemetery.
