HARTLETON – Jack Clayton Shirk, 88, of 311 Main St., since 1928, peacefully went home to be with his Lord at 11:58 p.m., Tuesday, March 10, 2015, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.
He was born August 13, 1926, in Hartleton, a son of the late Stuart and Ella Shirk. On March 11, 1962, in Mifflinburg, he married the former Virginia E. Revell, who survives.
Jack was a graduate of Mifflinburg High School.
He served in the Navy during World War II, from July 25, 1944 until his honorable discharge June 7, 1946.
Jack was owner and operator of Shirk’s Auto Body, in Milton and Lewisburg, for 57 years.
He was a member of the West End Lion’s Club, Millmont.
Jack enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, golfing, studying history, and spending time with his family.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 53 years, are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Jack C. Shirk, Jr. of Hartleton, and Keith A. and Tina M. Shirk of Mifflinburg; one daughter and son-in-law, Jill L. and Kevin L. Gemberling of Lewisburg; four grandchildren, Michael A. Shirk, Courtney M. Shirk, Kayla M. Girton, and Tyler V. Gemberling; and two great grandchildren, Micah Shirk and Lillian Shirk.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.
Family and friends are welcome from 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday, at the Old Union Church, Catherine St., Hartleton, where the funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m., with Rev. Richard VonNeida, officiating.
Burial will be in the Hartleton Cemetery with military honors by the Mifflinburg American Legion Post 410.
