Jacob A Riehl, 87, of 2549 Hwy 184 W., Due West, SC, entered his final rest at 9:30 P.M., Friday, March 12, 2021, at his home.
He was born December 21, 1933, in Lancaster County, PA; son of the late Abner B. and Mary Lapp Riehl. On November 3, 1953, he married Barbara E. Zook, who preceded him in death.
Jacob provided well for his family, working primarily with wood in different business ventures including clock making and repair, cabinet door manufacturing, playground installation, and building sawmill equipment. He and his wife, Barbara, were also involved as volunteers in several disaster relief projects for Mennonite Disaster Service in South Carolina and Texas.
For Jacob, family trips and outings were a frequent diversion from hard work, and his favorite pastime was reading.
Jacob was a charter member of Shekinah Christian Fellowship in Middleburg PA. Following the death of his wife in September 2015, he retired and moved from his home in Pennsylvania to South Carolina, where he resided at the time of his death. He attended Cold Spring Mennonite Church.
Surviving are five children and their spouses: Maryann and Samuel Yoder of Aaronsburg, PA; Abner and SallyAnn Lantz, of Due West, SC; Edna and Stephen Longenderfer, of Willow Street, PA; Linda and William Peachy, of East Waterford, PA; and Jacob Jr. and Vera King, of Lewisburg, PA; one brother, Menno S. Riehl, of Leola, PA; 23 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.
The family will receive friends on Monday, March 15, 2021 from 5:30 – 7:30PM at the Cold Spring Mennonite Church in Abbeville.
Graveside services will be Thursday, March 18, at the Shekinah Christian Fellowship Church Cemetery, Middleburg. Attendance by invitation only.
