MIFFLINBURG – James Emil Hornberger, 95, of 2345 Reber Rd., since 1971, entered into rest at 11:09 a.m., Tuesday, August 9, 2016, at his home.
He was born May 15, 1921, in Philadelphia, a son of the late George and Johanna (Weinrich) Hornberger. On July 9, 1937, in Elkton, Maryland, he married the former Margaret E. Foss, who preceded him in death April 17, 2011.
James served in the Navy during World War II from 1944 until his honorable discharge in 1945.
He was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Mifflinburg.
James was a self-employed baker and also worked as a cook at Bucknell University for 10 years.
He was a founding member of the Twin Hollows Hunting Club, Lycoming County, and a member of the Mifflinburg American Legion Post 410.
James enjoyed fishing, hunting, and farming.
Surviving are four sons and daughters-in-law, James L. and Martha E. Hornberger of Lewisburg, Larry G. and Lillie M. Hornberger of Selinsgrove, Louis H. and Betty L. Hornberger of Bensalem, and Alvin and Pat Corson of Lansdale; one god daughter, Patty Joan; 9 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great granddaughter.
The Hornberger family gives a special thank you to his caregiver, Trish Miller, and his daughter-in-law, Betty Hornberger.
He was preceded in death by one daughter in infancy, Margaret Lynn; and three brothers, George, Eugene, and Henry.
Family and friends are welcome from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, at the Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Rd., Mifflinburg.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m., Monday, at the Forest Hills Cemetery, 25 Byberry Rd., Philadelphia, with Pastor Louis Hornberger, officiating.
