Jeanne M. McArdle, 82, of Lewisburg, entered into rest at 6:20 a.m., Sunday, August 4, 2019, at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village.
She was born September 8, 1936, in Jackson Heights, Queens, New York, the daughter of the late William E. and Della (Walsh) O’Brien.
Jeanne graduated from Mary Immaculata School of Nursing in New York.
She worked as a Registered Nurse at Mary Immaculata Hospital, and Kings Park Psychiatric Center, New York. Jeanne worked at Kings Park for almost thirty years on third shift, which she loved. She was fond of her patients and gathered the respect of her nursing staff over the many years.
Jeanne attended Sacred Heart Church, Lewisburg.
Grammy, as she was known by her grandchildren, adored each one of her 11 grandchildren and was so proud of all of them. She loved to hear stories of their adventures and travels. Grammy was one to always encourage her children and grandchildren to explore the world and spread their wings. She stressed the importance of education and hard work and instilled wonderful values in others. She deeply wanted the very best for her loved ones.
Jeanne was a good listener and friend, and had many relationships that spanned decades. She will be remembered as a vivacious and quick-witted lady with a special knack for remembering birthdays. She was generous, thoughtful and soft hearted.
She enjoyed Jumble games, traveling, cruising, watching tennis and golf, caring for her plants, and a good laugh. There was always a Pepsi in her hand and a joke to be told. She loved animals, and in her later years rescued a cat named Sable, with whom she watched countless old movies and Wheel of Fortune. Jeanne often knew the puzzles after about two letters and no vowels!
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas G. McArdle of Piermont, New York, and Loreen McArdle, and Stephen E. McArdle and Toni Coburn of New York City; two daughters, Suzanne J. Short of Austin, Texas, and Eileen “Ina” McArdle her companion Jeffrey Feger of New Berlin; and 11 grandchildren, Kailee and Collin McArdle, Robby and Stephanie Short, Miles, Julia, and Adam McArdle-Coe, and Wil, Ben, Luke, and Leo Coburn-McArdle.
