Jere L. Engle, 86, Weikert

Jere Lake Engle, 86, of 832 Jollys Grove Lane, since 1985, entered into rest at 6:20 a.m., Thursday, March 10, 2011, at 124 Motter Lane, New Berlin, the home of his son, where he had lived since January 2010.

He was born May 5, 1924, in Shamokin, a son of the late Paul and Marion (Lake) Engle. On July 25, 1948, at the First Presbyterian Church, Shamokin, he married the former Mary L. Kline. She preceded him in death May 20, 2005.

Jere was a 1942 graduate of Shamokin High School.

He was co-owner of the Shamokin Lumber Company, for 35 years, until he retired in 1985.

Jere served in the Army during World War II, from May 22, 1943 until his honorable discharge January 4, 1946. During this time he served with the Battery D 795th Anti Aircraft Artillery in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe.

He was a member of the East Point Fish and Game Club, Liberty. Earlier in life, he was a volunteer with the Boy Scout Troup #253, Shamokin.

Jere enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing pinochle, spending time with his family, and playing volleyball even until the age of 85. He was talented in construction, and built his own home in Weikert.

Surviving are three sons and two daughters-in-law, Jere L. Engle of New Berlin, Jay A. and Julie Engle of Lewisburg, WV, and Jeffry B. and Debra Engle of Millmont; four grandchildren, Jere W. and his wife Judi Engle of Absecon, NJ, Julie L. and her husband Mark Kosoglow of Tyrone, Adam J. Engle and his fiance Lauren Stokes of Jessup, Maryland, and Andrew E. Engle of Lewisburg, WV; 6 great grandchildren, Jeremiah and Noah Engle, and Maggel, Amelia, Samuel, and Emmanuel Kosoglow; one sister and brother-in-law, Janet and Robert Shuey of Overlook; and one sister-in-law, Patricia Engle of Shamokin.

In addition to his wife of 56 years, he was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Engle.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Geisinger Homecare, 100 N. Academy Ave., Danville, PA 17822.

Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date by Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Rd., Mifflinburg.
