Jo Ann Van Cott, 88, Lewisburg
Jo Ann Van Cott, 88, formerly of Ventura, California, entered into rest at 1:33 p.m., Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at Riverwoods Senior Living Community, Lewisburg, where she had been a resident since 2002.
She was born December 20, 1924, in Hammond, Indiana, a daughter of the late John Harold and Frances Inez (Etnire) Clark.
Jo Ann was a graduate of Thornton Fractional Township High School to which she returned to teach English following her graduation from Purdue University 1948 With her degree in Journalism, Jo Ann was active writing and editing the school's newspaper. It was at Purdue she met and later married Waldemar Van Cott, moving to California. following their wedding.
In 1971 Jo Ann returned to the midwest and was employed at the University of Chicago's Bobs Roberts Memorial Hospital for Children as administrative assistant to the director. Following her retirement, Jo Ann returned to California then in 1999 she moved to Lewisburg, Pennsylvania to be nearer her family.
Her fine sense of humor, love of books and interest in the arts which she shared with her friends and family will be missed."
Surviving are one sister and brother-in-law, Cynthia Clark and Lamont Smith of Mifflinburg; Sister-in-law, Marilyn Hekman Clark of Chicago, Illinois; and nieces and nephews, Dr. Susan Board Gillham of Westboraough, Massachusetts, Sarah Board Plott of Charlotte, North Carolina, Jennifer Clark Messina of Milan, Italy, Melissa Clark Nielsen of Copenhagen, Denmark, and Jonathan Stewart of Detroit, Michigan.
She was preceded in death by one brother, John William Clark.
Funeral services will be conducted privately.
