Joanne E. Haney, 79, Summerville
Joanne Elizabeth Haney, 79, of Summerville, South Carolina, died Thursday, January 22, 2009, at Summerville Medical Center.
She was born June 18, 1929, in New York City, a daughter of the late Julius St. Cyr Watson and Louisa Braswell Watson.
Joanne was a graduate of schools in Atlanta, Georgia.
She retired in November 2008, as an Administrative Assistant with Summerville Medical Center after 20 years of service.
Joanne was an active member of St. Theresa's Catholic Church, Summerville.
Through marriage, Mifflinburg became her home town and she had many friends and relatives there. Joanne was a loving daughter-in-law to the late Harry and Ethel Haney; a dear sister to Dotty and Don Seebold, Phyllis and Paul Heim, Bill and Janet Haney, and Harry and Joy Haney; and fond aunt to 13 nieces and nephews.
She enjoyed cooking, reading, and loved spending time with her family. Joanne lived a long, full life taking great pride in her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed traveling. Her most recent trips were to China, The Holy Land, Egypt, Ireland, Scotland, and Italy.
Surviving are her children, Donna Leigh and her husband George Gozik of Marriottsville, Maryland, Sherry and her husband Doyle Church of Summerville, Jeanne Haney and her husband Chip Dox of La Canada, California, Carlyn Smith of Santa Barbara, California, Christopher and his wife Marilyn Haney of Annapolis, Maryland, and Lise and her husband Carl Geller of La Canada, California; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.
Her children agree that her greatest accomplishment was producing a family who loves one another and who are not merely siblings, but close friends.
Family and friends are welcome at 2 p.m., Friday, July 30, 2010, at the Mifflinburg Cemetery, to celebrate the life of Joanne, with Deacon Richard Owen, celebrant.
