John R. Hummel, 88, Millmont

John Raymond Hummel, 88, of 339 Fairground, since 1984, entered into rest at 6:55 a.m., Tuesday, November 9, 2010, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

He was born May 2, 1922, in Middleburg, a son of the late Asher and Otto (Musser) Crouse. On September 12, 1947, in Germany, he married the former Friedl Lorenz, who preceded him in death April 6, 2005.

John served as a Captain in the Army during WWII, until his honorable discharge, January 21, 1946.

He was employed at Yorktowne, Mifflinburg, for many years.

John was an avid outdoorsman and gunsmith, and enjoyed trapping, logging, hunting, fishing, gardening, and woodworking.

Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Dolores M. and Truman C. Peifer of Herndon, and Lorraine R. and Russ C. Eisenhuth of Millmont; and two grandchildren, Duane A. and his wife Elizabeth Peifer of Rochester, NY, and Nyssa A. and her husband Dave Stem of Mifflinburg.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Elwood Crouse; and one sister, Naomi Lynch.

Family and friends are welcome from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, at the Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Rd., Mifflinburg. A graveside Service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Friday, at the Hartleton Cemetery, with Rev. Michael C. Romig, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1948 E. Third St., Williamsport, PA 17701.
