MILLMONT – John Wesley Showalter, 96, of 965 Lincoln Chapel Rd., formerly of 2650 Paddy Mountain Rd., entered into rest at 8:30 a.m., Thursday, July 16, 2015, at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, Lewisburg.
He was born May 12, 1919, in Hartley Township, a son of the late John Josiah and Mary Alice (Pursley) Showalter. On July 1, 1944, in Wrightsville, with his uncle Rev. J. Fred Andreas officiating, he married the former Lillian Fetterolf, who preceded him in death in 1972. On February 16, 1980, in Hartley Township, John married Shirley A. Wittenberg, who preceded him in death in 2012.
John was a 1936 graduate of Hartley Township High School.
He was a self-employed farmer his entire life, and was employed at Yorktowne, Mifflinburg, for over 20 years, until he retired.
John was a lifelong member of Lincoln Chapel United Methodist Church, Laurelton, where he was a trustee and Sunday school teacher.
He was a 4-H leader, and was active in the Penn State Extension.
John had a good sense of humor, and earlier in life enjoyed woodworking, and taxidermy.
Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, John F. and Margaret Showalter of Millmont, Stephen A. and Elaine Showalter of Danville, and David W. and Lori Jo Showalter of Millmont; two daughters and one son-in-law, Mary Elizabeth and Richard DeVett of Millmont, and Rebecca J. Finsterbush of Millmont; 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Family and friends are welcome from 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, and 2 to 3 p.m., Sunday, at the Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Rd., Mifflinburg, where the funeral will be conducted at 3, with Pastor Richard DeVett, officiating.
Burial will be in the Lincoln Chapel Cemetery, Laurelton.
