June Carmen Shively Bensinger, 80, Mifflinburg

June S. Bensinger, 80, of 605 Market St., Mifflinburg entered into rest the afternoon of Monday, February 21, 2011, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.

She was born May 4, 1930, in Hartleton, a daughter of the late George Luther and Grayce Esther Sampsell Shively. June was a 1948 graduate of Mifflinburg High School. Early in life she worked at Sterling Mills in Mifflinburg, the Laurelton State Village, and for the Bell Telephone Company.

On September 22, 1951, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mifflinburg, with Rev. Raymond Fisher performing the ceremony, she married Clair W. Bensinger. He preceded her in death on March 13, 2006.

After marriage, June and Clair moved to Wilmington, Delaware and then the Philadelphia area where she dedicated herself to her family and home, created an extensive garden, enjoyed reading, crocheting, and vacationing in Wildwood and Cape May, New Jersey, worked in retail sales, and was a member of St. John's Tinicum Memorial Lutheran Church.

In the early 1990's, June returned to Mifflinburg. In recent years, she attended the Lewisburg Senior Center and enjoyed activities and outings with her friends at the center. June was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, and also attended services at the Mifflinburg Assembly of God Church.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Stephen C. and Susan S. Bensinger of New Orleans; one daughter and son-in-law, Jean C. and Jay E. Wilcox, II, of Valley View; four grandchildren, Kiera V. Rider of Pittsburgh, Jay E. Wilcox, III, of Valley View, Samuel C. Bensinger and Sean C. Bensinger, both of New Orleans; and three brothers and their partners George and Nancy Shively of Shippensburg, Keith Shively and Thomas Williams of Bala Cynwyd, and Laird and Linda Shively of Brookhaven.

Family and friends are welcome to the viewing from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, February 24, at the Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Rd., Mifflinburg, and from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 25, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 404 Market St., Mifflinburg, where the funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m., with Rev. Kris Brown and Rev. Vickie Brown, officiating.

The Church will provide a luncheon following the service. June will be laid to rest at Ft. Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, with her beloved husband Clair Bensinger.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 404 Market St., Mifflinburg, PA 17844, or the Mifflinburg Assembly of God Church, 1001 Market St., Mifflinburg, PA 17844.
