Kathryn “Kitty” Everett Frederick, 85, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 18, 2023 at Our Lady of Hope Health Center in Richmond, Virginia, after being diagnosed with Glioblastoma. Kitty was born on January 17, 1938. She was the only child of the late Owen W. Everett and J. Virginia Everett Dailey and grew up in the village of Weikert, Pennsylvania. Kitty graduated from Mifflinburg Area High School in 1955 and after graduation worked in banking.
On September 15, 1957, she married Philip K. Frederick, Jr. at Hironimus Union Church in Weikert, Pennsylvania. As the spouse of an Air Force officer, Kitty called many places home including Virginia, Okinawa, Alabama, and Texas. Military assignments at the Pentagon and Air Force bases in the Washington, D. C. area allowed them to really settle down in the Virginia suburbs. They developed lifelong friendships in the close-knit neighborhood of Hayfield Farms that made those years special and memorable.
After Phil retired from the military, they returned to Pennsylvania to be close to family. Through the years, golf became a passion. They enjoyed playing often and traveling the country to experience a variety of golf courses. Kitty became a member of the Bucknell Ladies Golf Association. Kitty’s hobbies also included gardening, knitting, and putting together puzzles. She was a member and past board member of Hironimus Union Church as well as a member and past president of the Athenaeum Club. Family and friends were very important to Kitty. She was known for sending notes and cards, making birthday phone calls, and baking delicious cookies and pecan pies. A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, her home was always welcoming and she and Phil made many trips to Virginia to participate in all kinds of family activities and celebrations. She will be greatly missed.
Kitty is survived by her husband of 66 years, Phil Frederick; daughter, Susan Chevalier and her husband John; granddaughter, Jennifer Dey and her husband Wheeler; granddaughter, Kelly Henley and her husband Matthew; and great-grandchildren, Annie and Everett Henley, all of the Richmond, Virginia area.
