Kathy E. Mapes, 58, New Berlin
Kathy E. Mapes, 58, of 414 High St., since 1986, went on before us at peace with herself, her Lord, and her life, surrounded by her family and friends at her home, at 12:15 a.m., Saturday, October 22, 2011, after a two-year courageous fight with cancer.
She was born March 9, 1953, in Sunbury, a daughter of Mary Jane (Maurer) Wagner of Winfield and the late Marvin H. Wagner. On June 8, 1986, in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mifflinburg, she married Dennis J. "D.J." Mapes, who survives. They were happily married for 25 years.
Kathy was a 1971 graduate of Mifflinburg High School and served as secretary of her class.
She most recently was employed as a receptionist at the Union County Penn State Extension Office. Previously, she had worked at QE Manufacturing, New Berlin, SUN Area Vo-Tech, New Berlin, North Central Bank, Lewisburg, and AGWAY, Winfield.
Kathy was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mifflinburg, where she was a member of the choir, the worship and music committee, and served as director of the Cherub Choir.

Kathy's zest for life, her tireless energy, and her quest for everyone's peace, happiness, and enjoyment of life, was always accompanied by a little tardiness and should be remembered fondly by the many lives she touched.
Family was the most important part of Kathy's life.A Besides being a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother, her dedication to family was evident in every family holiday or special occasion.
Anyone who worked beside Kathy, whether it be, being in her cherub choir, awarding a scholarship on behalf of the Mifflinburg Alumni and Friends, organizing a parade or party, to selling french fries at the Marching Band Booster stand certainly has an appreciation for her dedication to each cause.
Surviving in addition to her husband of 25 years, and her mother, are one daughter, Rebecca "Becky" J. Mapes of New Berlin; one son and daughter-in-law, David W. and Angela Hendricks of Mifflinburg; two grandchildren, Sierra L. Rehm and Ethan D. Hendricks; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Gregory A. Wagner and his companion Jane Klingler of Mifflinburg, Scott A. and Jo Wagner of Montandon, and Brian A. and Sharon Wagner of Lewisburg; and one sister-in-law, Grace Wagner of Lewisburg.
