Leonard Dean Hassell, 61, of Northumberland, Pennsylvania, passed away Friday, September 15 at home.
Leonard "Lenny" was born February 18, 1962, to the late Leonard Connie Hassell and Clara Frances (Davenport) Aziere in Tyrell County, North Carolina.
He is survived by seven siblings, Pamula (Hassell) Herrick, Tonya (Shirley) Whitehead, Jennifer (Shirley) Bero, Michael Curtis Shirley, John Michael Dobransky, Allyson (Hassell) McKay, and Kim (Hassell) Ostrenga; stepparents, Curtis Mann Shirley, Cheryl (Silverthorne) Shirley, and Martha Hassell; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins; and his favorite person of all, his daughter, Elizabeth Marie (Hassell) Baker.
Leonard was preceded in death by paternal grandparents Elmer and Dorothy Hassell, and maternal grandparents Willie and Betty Davenport.
Lenny spent most of his years in Portsmouth, Virginia where he worked as a pipefitter supervisor at Colonna's Shipyard. He was also a member of Local #79 Union Ironworkers Hall (now Richmond Union Hall). Lenny was a hard worker and enjoyed earning that money- which he was also very generous with. He was a family man, who loved nothing more than a get-together with his loved ones. Christmas, Thanksgiving, camping or fishing trips...Lenny wanted to be there.
Leonard suffered an injury in 2015 that left him permanently disabled. After 8 long years, he is finally walking again on those golden streets with a healed, whole body.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, October 14 @1:00pm at Azalea Memorial Gardens in Columbia, North Carolina 27925.
Arrangements are by Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Rd., Mifflinburg.
