Lorraine Dunlap

April 9, 1935 — February 2, 2022

Jersey Shore

Lorraine Dorothy Dunlap, 86, of Jersey Shore, passed away at 5:56 a.m., Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at UPMC Divine Providence Hospital, Williamsport, after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

She was born April 9, 1935, in Nippenose Valley, a daughter of the late Gerald and Dorothy (Steinbacher) Moore. On May 28, 1960, she married Carl E. Dunlap, of Duboistown, who preceded her in death.

Lorraine was the second child, the oldest daughter in the family that would bloom to 17 children.

Lorraine attended Immaculate Conception School, Bastress Township, Lycoming County, through the 8th grade, when she left to help care for her many siblings, Eventually, she was employed by Cobbler’s in Williamsport. She then briefly worked cleaning houses, and lastly, she worked at Moore Video in Jersey Shore until its closing.

For many years, she operated the french fry stand at the Bastress picnics. Lorraine loved to can the food she and Carl grew for many years, and she made exquisite strawberry jam. She also loved to bake, make candy, including her famous peanut butter and coconut eggs and peanut brittle. She is perhaps best known for her home-made applesauce.

Lorraine was a fastidious housekeeper (you could literally eat off her floor!), a savvy shopper, and the most stylish woman you’d care to know. She loved push-mowing her lawn, playing cards, spending time with family and friends, and enjoying a good Manhattan on her deck.

Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Keith E. and Luann Witthoff Dunlap of Mifflinburg, and Christopher J. and Kymberly Burd Dunlap of South Williamsport; four grandsons, Keenan and his wife Megan Dunlap of Sarasota, FL, Shane Dunlap of Bellefonte, Colin Dunlap of Harrisburg, and Ian Dunlap of South Williamsport; one granddaughter, Lydia Dunlap of South Williamsport; one great granddaughter, Reese of Sarasota, FL; and several Godchildren, and countless nieces and nephews.

Also surviving are seven brothers, David, Edward, Jake, Michael, Alfred, Dennis, and Rocco Moore; and five sisters, Janet Lorson, Marge Asel, Donna Dincher, Connie Moore, and Frances White.

In addition to her husband and parents, Lorraine was preceded in death by brothers John, Sylvester (Wes), William, and Robert.
