MIFFLINBURG – Lou Jane Mitchell, 86, of 422 Walnut St., since 1956, entered into rest at 8:25 a.m., Thursday, November 19, 2015, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, following a brief illness.
She was born September 25, 1929, in Lewisburg, a daughter of the late Dr. Robert Darlington and Mary Ellen (Snyder) Arnold. On June 23, 1956, in the Mifflinburg United Methodist Church, she married James C. Mitchell, who survives.
Lou Jane was a 1947 honor roll graduate of Mifflinburg High School, and a 1951 graduate of Kutztown State College, majoring in Art Education.
She was a lifelong member of the Mifflinburg United Methodist Church.
Lou Jane was an art teacher in the Montgomery public schools, and later was employed at the Laurelton State Village, for many years.
She was a member of the Mifflinburg Atheneum Club, Eastern Star, and was active in other local organizations. Lou Jane enjoyed contributing her artistic talents to many community events.
Surviving in addition to her husband of 59 years, are one son, James R. Mitchell of Mifflinburg; one sister and brother-in-law, Anna Jo and Vincent Boyer of McAllisterville; one sister-in-law, Gertrude Mitchell, of Hartleton; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Family and friends are welcome from 10 to 11 a.m., Monday, at the Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Rd., Mifflinburg, where the funeral will be conducted at 11, with Rev. Elizabeth Taylor, officiating.
Burial will be in the Hartleton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to either the Mifflinburg United Methodist Church, 279 Market St., Mifflinburg, PA 17844, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
