Lucien G. Maurer, 66, Mifflinburg
Lucien Gale Maurer, 66, of Buffalo Rd., entered into rest at 2:10 a.m., Saturday, June 25, 2011, at his home.
He was born August 6, 1944, in Darby, a son of the late Paul S. and Kathryn E. (Mohn) Maurer. On September 8, 1973, at the Dreisbach United Church of Christ, Lewisburg, he married the former Arlene M. Wolfe, who survives. Together they celebrated 37 years of marriage.
After graduation from high school, Lucien earned his bachelors degree in Agronomy at Delaware Valley College of Science and Agriculture.
He then joined the peace corps, and spent two years in Nigeria. Six months after returning home from Nigeria, Lucien entered the Army and honorably served a two year tour of duty in Vietnam.
Lucien was a member of the Buffalo Valley Church of the Brethren for nearly 30 years.
He was employed as a rural letter carrier for the Mifflinburg Post Office for many years, until he retired in April 2009.
Lucien loved the Lord Jesus, his family, friends, and the beauty and time he spent on earth. Lucien is now at home, in heaven.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are three sons and one daughter-in-law, Uriah L. Maurer of Mifflinburg, Elias S. and Christianna Maurer of Liverpool, and Malachi G. Maurer of Mifflinburg and his fiance' Ashley Estep of Mercersburg; one brother, Paul M. Maurer of Mifflinburg; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jack and Janet Sulzer of Lemont.
There will be no public viewing. A memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m., Tuesday, at the Buffalo Valley Church of the Brethren, 46 Brethren Church Rd., Mifflinburg, with Rev. Randall C. Fiske, officiating.
Following the memorial service, friends are welcome to join the Maurer family for light refreshments and fellowship at the church.
A private burial will be in the New Berlin Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are by Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Rd., Mifflinburg.
