LEWISBURG – Martha Kathleen Oberlin, 80, of 123 First St., for the past 55 years, entered into rest at 4:10 a.m., Sunday, February 14, 2016, at Pinnacle Health Community General Osteopathic Hospital, Harrisburg.
She was born August 29, 1935, in Sunbury, a daughter of the late Warren Allen Rhoades and Helen (Yeager) Rhoades Wise. On June 8, 1957, she married Earnest F. Oberlin, who preceded her in death January 25, 1998.
Martha was a 1953 graduate of Sunbury High School.
She was an active member of the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Lewisburg, where she served as Sunday school teacher, youth leader, and a member of the kitchen crew.
Martha volunteered as a Girl Scout leader, 4-H leader, and was the president of the Kelly Elementary PSA while her children attended there. She loved her children and grandchildren very much and was an active supporter in all of their activities.
She was employed at the Lewisburg Area School District in the cafeteria. After retirement, Martha enjoyed working part-time in the bakery at Country Cupboard, Lewisburg.
Martha had a joy of cooking and baking. Over the years, her talents were requested by many couples in the area to provide their wedding cake. Martha’s family will always remember the special box of cookies that she made for them each year for Christmas.
Surviving are one son, David A. Oberlin of Mifflinburg; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rhonda and Mark Salak of Linglestown, and Ann and Daniel Murphy of Lewisburg; six loving grandchildren, Autumn and Drew of New Columbia, Kelly of Mifflinburg, Joshua and Justin of Linglestown, and Allison and Megan of Lewisburg; one great granddaughter, Sadie of New Columbia; and two sisters Nellie Nadzon of Shamokin, and Mary Koch of Lewisburg.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Warren, Joseph, Morton, and James Rhoades; and one sister, Ruth Grimm.
Family and friends are welcome from 9 to 11 a.m., Saturday, at the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 42 S. 4th St., Lewisburg, where the funeral will be conducted at 11, with Rev. Judi A. Herrold, officiating.
Burial will be in the Mazeppa Union Cemetery.
