Michael "Mike" Hackenberg

February 13, 1949 — February 22, 2025

Mifflinburg

Michael Hackenberg, age 76, of Mifflinburg, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2025 at Rolling Hills.

He was born February 13, 1949 in Lewisburg, a son of the late William E. and Dorothy A. (Zimmerman) Hackenberg. On April 20, 1974, he married the former Donna L. Troup, who survives.

A devoted family man, Michael was cherished by his wife Donna of 50 years, children and grandchildren, who were the light of his life.

Mike was a 1967 graduate of Mifflinburg High School.

Mike was employed as a meat cutter his whole life, starting at IGA in Mifflinburg right out of high school and retiring from Rishel’s Meats in 2017.

Mike had a true passion for life’s simple joys. He was an avid Neil Diamond fan, and he and his wife Donna attended his concerts seven times throughout the years, taking many people along for the journey.

His love for music was matched only by his admiration for racing, especially his devotion to the legendary Dale Earnhardt. His extensive collection of memorabilia was a testament to his enthusiasm for the sport.

Known for his love of cars, and his nickname Shoes, Mike’s bright orange Camaro was a familiar sight around town, a symbol of his pride and joy. His spirit was as vibrant as his car, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Mike is survived by his wife Donna (Troup), children, Kelly and Steve Walter and Ryan and Mindi Hackenberg, all of Mifflinburg; grandchildren and spouses, Matthew and Janelle Walter, Andrew and Emma Walter, Karli and Aric Hackenberg, all of Mifflinburg, and Austin and Sydnee Walter of Florida; 5 great-grandsons; brother Thomas (Bonnie) Hackenberg of New Berlin; two sisters, Gladys Hackenberg Walter of Millheim and Dottie (Bob) Hackenberg Walter of Mifflinburg; two sisters-in-law, Judy Hackenberg of Northumberland and Melanie Hackenberg of New Berlin; and many other loved ones.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Richard, Gary, William and Robert Hackenberg in infancy; and two sisters, Joan Hartzell and Jean Wagner.

Family and friends are welcome from 1 to 3 p.m., Sunday, March 2nd, at Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Road, Mifflinburg.

A private service will be held for family and friends to celebrate his life.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in Mike’s memory to the Mifflinburg Hose Co. No. 1, 325 Chestnut Street, Mifflinburg PA 17844.
