MIFFLINBURG a�" Nancy Ann Holthus, 63, of 520 Old Orchard Lane since 1969, entered into rest at 2:32 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.
She born Sept. 20, 1945, in Lancaster, the daughter of the late C. Neal and Dorothy (McVey) McFadden. On Sept. 10, 1966, in York , she married James M. Holthus, who survives.
Nancy was a 1963 graduate of Dallastown High School . She earned her bachelor's degree in 1966 and master's degree in rehabilitation counseling in 1968 from Pennsylvania State University .
She was employed at the Laurelton Center as a rehabilitation counselor and was director of the rehabilitation department. Nancy also was a unit manager at the Selinsgrove Center and then worked in the governor's office in the Division of Policy during the terms of Robert Casey and Tom Ridge .
Nancy was a cancer survivor. She became ill with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in 1994 while in law school at Widener University , Harrisburg .
She was a talented artist. A master of clay, she sculpted porcelain dolls. Once fired, she further carried skills as a painter and seamstress to complete her work. As time went on, she began to move from macro to micro, giving way to silversmithing and beadworking. The creation of her own jewelry served as a new adventure.
Nancy enjoyed traveling with her husband to Arizona during the winter months and also enjoyed her trip to Ireland last year.
In addition to her husband of 42 years, she is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Jay A. and Jennifer M. Holthus of Lewisburg and Clint J. and Robin Holthus of Houston, Texas; one brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Loretta McFadden of Austin, Texas; and three grandchildren, Vaughn, Livia and Juliette.
Visitors may call from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Roupp Funeral Home Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Road , Mifflinburg, where a celebration of Nancy 's life will be conducted at 3.
Everyone who knew Nancy (or mom, Nanc, Nan , Grandma) knew her as a fighter who wore her emotions on her sleeve. But what she was best known for was her laughter, constant giving, and that infectious smile.
