Owen E. Heiss, 87, Mifflinburg
Owen Elwood Heiss, 87, of 1486 Glover Hill Rd., since 1951, entered into rest Thursday, May 10, 2012, at his home.
He was born August 12, 1924, in Mifflinburg, a son of the late Norman R. and Verna C. (Koch) Heiss. On February 17, 1951, at the White Deer Lutheran Parsonage, he married the former June Diefenbach, who preceded him in death October 30, 1999.
Owen was a 1941 graduate of Mifflinburg High School.
He was a lifetime member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Cowan, where he sang in the choir.
Owen farmed his entire life, and operated his family farm, including raising cattle and chickens, until he retired at the age of 82.
He was a member of the West Branch Chorus. Earlier in life, Owen enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Mifflinburg School Board, CSIU School Board, Union County Planning Commission, and Mifflinburg Chapter of the Pennsylvania Young Farmers Association.
Surviving are three sons and two daughters-in-law, Scott D. and Debora J. Heiss of Mifflinburg, Max E. and Phyllis P. Heiss of Bellefonte, and Gregg L. Heiss of Mifflinburg; one daughter and son-in-law, Holly M. and Tim R. Snyder of Mifflinburg; one brother, Glen Heiss of Mifflinburg; and four grandchildren, Heather Heiss, and Cody, Collin, and Cameron Snyder.
Family and friends are welcome from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, at the Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Rd., Mifflinburg, and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Monday, at the Trinity Lutheran Church of Cowan, 2599 Church Rd., Mifflinburg, where the funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m., with Rev. James H. Gold, officiating.
Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery.
