Phyllis P. Swanger, 89, of New Berlin, went to be with her Lord and Savior at 10:05 a.m., Thursday, January 30, 2025, at Wellspan Evangelical Hospital.
She was born December 14, 1935, in Spring Township, Snyder County, the ninth child of the late George V. and Anna Dora (Smith) Reich. On June 19, 1954, in New Berlin, she married Lloyd H. Swanger, who survives. They celebrated their 70th Anniversary in 2024.
Phyllis was a 1954 graduate of Selinsgrove High School.
She was employed as a floral designer and manager of Stein’s Flowers and Gifts, Lewisburg, for 25 years, until retirement in 1992.
Phyllis was an active member of the New Berlin Emmanel Church, where she was a pianist, adult Sunday School teacher, organized church fundraisers and dinners, and was a Certified Lay Leader and Lay Speaker.
She was very active in her community, and was involved in the Red Hat Society, New Berlin Activities Committee, Quilters and Homemakers Guild and New Berlin Food Pantry. She was also a former Cub Scout den mother.
Phyllis enjoyed quilting, crocheting, traveling, reading, cooking, and gardening.
Surviving in addition to her husband, are three sons and daughters-in-law, Rev. Logan and Pai Swanger of Mechanicsburg, Kelvin and Janet Swanger of Sweet Valley, Jeffrey and Debra Swanger of New Berlin; two grandsons and spouse, Jeremiah Swanger and Benjamin and Rebecca Swanger; one great-grandson, Oliver Swanger; and step-great-grandson, Jordan Coble.
She was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters.
Family and friends are welcome from 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Emmanuel Church of New Berlin, 319 Plum Street, New Berlin, where a celebration of life will be conducted at 11, with Pastor Scott Benfer, officiating.
Burial will follow in New Berlin Cemetery.
