Ray S. Walter, 77, of Mifflinburg, went home to be with Jesus, at 7:25 a.m., Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.

He was born September 17, 1946, in Lewisburg, a son of the late Glenn A. Walter and Josephine (Stout) Lenker. Ray and his sister, Linda Kay Walter, were raised by their maternal grandparents, Frank and Florence (Sampsell) Stout.  On October 24, 1970, at the Four Bell Church, Millmont, he married the former Freda M. Oberlin, who survives. His death breaks a union of 53 years that was still going strong.

Ray was a 1964 graduate of Mifflinburg High School, where he played football, basketball, and baseball.

He served in the Army during the Vietnam Conflict from 1964 until his honorable discharge in 1967.

Ray was a member of the Mifflinburg Assembly of God Church for 53 years.

Ray was employed at ConAgra Foods, Milton, for 39 years.

He enjoyed watching his son and grandsons growing up playing soccer and basketball and watching his granddaughter doing gymnastics, even if it was a private show in the living room.  Ray also enjoyed reading westerns, going to public sales and yard sales, and treating his family to many day trips.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are one son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Lori Walter of Centre Hall; two daughters and one son-in-law, Michele and William Wagner of Mifflinburg, and Karen Walter of Lewisburg; four grandchildren, Christian Wagner, Aaron Wagner, Benjamin and his wife Nakita Wagner, and Tessa Walter.

In addition to his parents and grandparents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Linda Kay Walter; and his half siblings, Frank Lenker and Sheree Frey.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 23, at the Mifflinburg Assembly of God Church, 1001 Market St., Mifflinburg, with Pastor Johnny Blake, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Mifflinburg Assembly of God Church, 1001 Market St., Mifflinburg, PA 17844.
