Raymond D. Robbins, 90, Lewisburg
Raymond Dewey Robbins, 90, of 4517 Crossroads Dr., since 1964, entered into rest at 2:40 p.m., Sunday, July 20, 2014, at Nottingham Village, Northumberland, where he had been a resident since May 19th..
He was born October 15, 1923, in Bloomsburg, a son of the late Wilson Atwood and Cora Margaret (Prowant) Robbins. On May 4, 1946, he married the former M. Vivian Gates, who preceded him in death September 2, 1997.
Raymond was a member of the St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Lewisburg.
He served as a cannoneer in the Army, 739th Field Artillery, in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe, from March 29, 1943 until his honorable discharge December 6, 1945.
Raymond was employed at Jasper Wood Products, Watsontown, for 40 years. He was born and raised on a farm and continued farming throughout his life.
He was a member of the Turbotville V.F.W. Post 8206.
Raymond enjoyed woodworking, gardening, fishing, watching vintage western movies, and his kitties.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Raymond H. and Donna Robbins of Mifflinburg; one daughter and son-in-law, Rose R. and Kimber Williams of New Columbia; six grandchildren, Katrina Robbins of Shamokin Dam, Gretchen Robbins of Lewisburg, Heidi Robbins of Mifflinburg, Adam Killian and his girlfriend Brandi Pratt of Marysville, Amanda and her husband Brent Kline of Milton, and Andrew Killian of New Columbia; one great granddaughter, Cora Kline; six brothers and four sisters-in-law, Franklin and Fujiko Robbins of New Columbia, Larry and Barbara Robbins of Watsontown, James Robbins of Watsontown, Lee and Maxine Robbins of Watsontown, Samuel and Marigold Robbins of Milton, and Jack Robbins of Danville; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Zona and John Walls of New Columbia, and Grace and Richard Meese of New Columbia; and Raymond's close friends and caregivers, Willard and Cindy Hollenbach of Lewisburg.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers, Howard, Henry, Paul, Charles, Albert, Guy, and Walter Robbins; and one sister, Betty Heddings.
There will be no public viewing. Family and friends are welcome for a time of visitation from 10 to 11 a.m., Friday, at the Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Rd., Mifflinburg, where the funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m., with Rev. Susan Gabbard, officiating.
Burial will be in the Mazeppa Union Cemetery with military honors by the Mifflinburg American Legion Post 410.
