Richard "Dick" E. Cass, 79, Lewisburg
Richard "Dick" Eugene Cass, 79, of 82 Belair Dr., for the past 28 years, entered into rest at 9:40 p.m., Sunday, October 14, 2012, at his home.
He was born October 31, 1932, in Blossburg, a son of the late Carleton and Beulah (Padgett) Cass. On September 25, 1964, in Buffalo, New York, he married the former Patricia D. Kingman, who survives.
Dick was a 1950 graduate of Elkland High School.
After graduation, Dick proudly served in the Navy for 20 years. From 1950-52, he was at the Command Submarine Force headquarters at Pearl Harbor; 1952-54, abroad the USS Coucal, a sub rescue ship in the Pacific Fleet; and from 1955-57 at NATO Command, CINCSOUTH in Naples, Italy.
He served as a Navy recruiter in Pittsburgh and from 1962-64 he was stationed on the air craft carrier USS Independent with the Atlantic Fleet. Dick returned to the states as a Navy recruiter in Buffalo, New York, where he met his wife, Pat.
In 1965, Dick went back to sea on the aircraft Carrier USS Shangrila in the Atlantic. He retired from the Navy in 1970.
He was a Field Director of the Boys Scouts of America for 8 years, and was employed at the National Gypson Company, New Columbia, for 21 years.
Dick was a member of the Dreisbach United Church of Christ, Lewisburg, for over 20 years.
He worked at the Bucknell Golf Club since 1999, and was a monitor at the Bucknell Field House, since 2002.
Dick enjoyed golfing, and gardening at his home.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 48 years, are five daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Mike DeAngelis of Buffalo, Kelly and Peter Boal of Seattle, Vickie and Kevin Kilgus of Watsontown, Kim Cass and Jim Morse of Baltimore, and Kathy and Dan Deely of Pittsburgh; two sons, Larry Cass, and Michael Cass, both of Milton, Florida; 11 grandchildren and their spouses, Melanie and Jay Benbenek of Buffalo, Cheri and Adam Tolnay of Dacula, Georgia, Stacey and Daniel Dugan of Buffalo, Sebastian Boal, Oliver Boal, and Sarah Boal, all of Seattle, Amanda Kilgus, and Ryan Kilgus, both of Watsontown, Collin Morse, Devlynn Morse, and Darcy Morse, all of Baltimore; two great grandchildren, Braiden, and Gabriel; one sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Dick Rumberger of Knoxville; and one sister-in-law, Charlene Cass of Elkland.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Lucia Grattan; and one brother, Burton Cass.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Dick will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, at the Dreisbach United Church of Christ, 875 Dreisbach Church Rd., Lewisburg, with Rev. Michael Romig, officiating.
Military honors by the Mifflinburg American Legion Post 410 will immediately follow the memorial service at the church.
