Richard I. Zechman, 86, Lewisburg

Richard Irvin Zechman, 86, of 407 Strawbridge Rd., for the past 26 years, entered into rest at 4:30 a.m., Saturday, December 14, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

He was born October 24, 1927, in Shamokin Dam, a son of the late Charles Edward and Florence Marion (Snyder) Zechman. On June 21, 1952, at the Buffalo Valley Church of the Brethren, Mifflinburg, he married the former Hilda M. Boop, who preceded him in death April 5, 2013.

He was an active member of the Buffalo Valley Church of the Brethren, Mifflinburg, since 1952, where served on the stewardship, finance, and building committees. Richard assisted in designing and building the church parsonage. Also served as superintendent for the Sabbath School Association. Later Richard served as church usher, and was a member of the Golden Oldies in which he arranged bus tours for 12 years.

Richard was a 1944 granduate of Mifflinburg High School.

He served in the Army as a medical technician in the medics of the 2nd armored division from January 3, 1946 until his honorable discharge on July 4, 1947.

Richard was employed as a Production Manager at Philco Ford a�" Zentith Cabinet Company, Watsontown, for 34 years. At the closing of the cabinet company in 1978, he and his wife moved to Rochester, New York, where he worked as a Plant Manager at the Aeolian Piano Company and later at the Hardwood House.

He enjoyed puzzles, woodworking and made many nice items for his family and friends. Richard was always ready to help somebody in need and was happiest when he was assisting others. He was a very loving husband and father.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Michael A. and Kathy A. Zechman of Mifflinburg; two daughters and sons-in-law, Marilyn A. and Richard L. Rhoades of Lewisburg, and Penny L. and Daniel S. Johnson of Lewisburg; 4 grandchildren, Jeremey L. Rhoades, Janelle M. Rhoades Bilger, Amanda S. Johnson, and Tatiana R. Johnson; and 5 great grandchildren, Kaelyn J. Fogelman, Gavin E. Fogelman, Bryn J. Rhoades, Jayar C. Rhoades, and Aubrey M. Bilger; one brother, Robert Zechman of Lewisburg; and one sister, Betty Auman of Beaver Falls; Richard leaves behind a lifelong, dear friend, who had become important to his entire family, Mary Jane Benner of Mifflinburg.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Kenneth, Charles, Jr., Donald, and Harold Zechman; and two sisters, Geraldine Shively and Thelma Zechman.

Family and friends are welcome for a time of visitation from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday, at the Buffalo Valley Church of the Brethren, 46 Brethren Church Rd., Mifflinburg, where a memorial service to celebrate the life of Richard will be conducted at 2 p.m., with Pastor Eric Reamer, officiating.

Interment will be in the Brethren Church Cemetery, with military honors by the Mifflinburg American Legion Post 410.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in memory of Richard to the Buffalo Valley Church of the Brethren, Building Fund, 46 Brethren Church Rd., Mifflinburg, PA 17844.

Funeral arrangements are by Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Rd., Mifflinburg.
