Robert A. Shetterly, 76, White Springs
Robert Andrew Shetterly, 76, of 1910 Penns Creek Rd., made his transition at 4:27 a.m., Saturday, April 10, 2010, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
He was born January 4, 1934, in the Noetling Building in Selinsgrove, a son of the late George Andrew and Phoebe Mae (Kratzer) Shetterly. On October 19, 1983, in Silver Springs, Maryland, he married the former Peggy Ann Ale, who survives.
Bob attended Selinsgrove High School.
He was proud of his service in the Navy CB's from July 13, 1953 until his honorable discharge July 2, 1957. Bob received his Navy basic training at Bainbridge, Maryland, completed construction schooling at Port Huene, California, and Signal Schooling at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. He was stationed at Argentia, Newfoundland, Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, and Port Lyote, French Morocco.
Bob was an accomplished electrician, plumber, and heating and air conditioning specialist. He retired from BZ Motors, Lewisburg, in 1996.
He was an avid reader, a member of the New Berlin American Legion Post 957, and the Union County Sportsmen's Club, Weikert. Bob was an active volunteer in the Penns Creek Senior Center.
He used his talents to do many random acts of kindness for those who came to him. He loved the many dog friends that he shared time with over his lifetime. Bob was a philosopher who engaged others in lively discussions about the mysteries of life. His family hopes that he has now found some of those answers.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 26 years, are three daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Jon Reigle, Terri and Tom Duke, and Carol and Jeffrey Styers, all of Mifflinburg; two sons, Michael Shetterly of Mifflinburg, and Rodney Lee Shetterly of White Springs; one sister, Joan Shetterly of Millerstown; five step-children, Lisa Hassenplug, Donna Hough, Wayne Richard, Jerry Richard, and Roger Richard; 18 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren.
