Robert Eugene Steimling, 85, of Mifflinburg went home to be with his Lord, at 12:20 a.m., Friday, March 10, 2017, at Rolling Hills Manor, Millmont, where he had been a patient for 4 weeks with additional support of Evangelical Hospice.
Robert was born on July 4, 1931 in Kissimmee, PA, at his homestead on the hill. He was the son of the late Hoover and Nora (Gemberling) Steimling. On September 18, 1954, in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mifflinburg, he married the former Kathryn Predix, who preceded him in death on September 24, 2016. They were married for 62 years and she was deeply missed by him.
Robert attended Middleburg Area Schools.
He enlisted in the Army in July 1951 and served during the Korean War until he was honorably discharged in December 1953.
Robert was a member of the Mifflinburg VFW since his honorable military discharge.
He was employed at Philco, Watsontown, Princess Homes and Zimmer Homes, Selinsgrove, and James Julian Construction. At the age of 65, Robert went to work at McDonald’s, Mifflinburg, where he was an employee for 15 years. He believed in a good work ethic and always believed that he needed to stay employed.
Robert was interested in his family and enjoyed watching first his son, then grandsons, then nephews compete in a variety of sports. He enjoyed watching sports, especially the Dallas Cowboys, and Dale Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt Jr. in NASCAR.
He was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mifflinburg.
Surviving is one son and daughter-in-law, Michael E. and Marian “Mamie” Sorg-Steimling of Mifflinburg; two grandsons, Joshua M. Steimling and his wife Shannon (Maag) Steimling of Carlisle, and Justin A. Steimling and his fiancé Kelly McCloud of State College; one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ruth and Vernon Gessner of Mifflinburg; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, Kathryn, he was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Shrawder; Three brothers, Max, Dale, and Jack Steimling; and a brother-in-law, Francis Predix.
As per Robert’s wishes, there will be no public viewing or funeral. A graveside service with military honors will be conducted privately at the convenience of the family.
