Robert W. Swanger, 81, Mifflinburg
Robert Warren Swanger, 81, of 201 E. Market St., since 1990, entered into rest at 10:06 a.m., Friday, August 13, 2010, at his home.
He was born July 19, 1929, in Lewisburg, a son of the late Charles S. and Olie U. (Chappel) Swanger. On October 10, 1953, in Mazeppa, he married the former Freida I. Aikey, who survives.
Robert was a Korean War veteran, honorably serving in the 45th Army Infantry from 1950 to 1953.
He was employed as a mill operator at Ralston Purina, Lewisburg, for 36 years.
Robert was a life member of the Mifflinburg Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1964, and the Mifflinburg American Legion Post 410.
Surviving in addition to his wife of nearly 57 years, are one son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Robin Swanger of Weikert; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Joan and Karl Ross, Virginia and Carl Gilbert, and Debra Swanger and her companion Mike Weller, all of Mifflinburg; one brother, Donald Swanger of Brockport, NY; three sisters, Ethelda Clayton of Milton, Leola Dornsife of Mifflinburg, and Laurabelle Lloyd of West Milton; 7 grandchildren, Amy Weller, Travis Ross, Philip Gilbert, Brad Gilbert, Christina Klinefelter, Derek Swanger, and Matthew Swanger; and 7 great-grandchildren, Kari Ann, Alexis, Lydia-Kay, Bekki, Melody, Colin, Annika, and Madeson.
He was preceded in death by one son, Robert Clarence Swanger, in infancy; 7 brothers, Willard, John, Tom, Ralph, Russel, Earnest, and Paul; and 3 sisters, Myrtle Reedy, Edna Brown, and Betty Diehl.
Family and friends are welcome from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Tuesday, at the First Church of the Nazarene, 12 E. Market St., Mifflinburg, where the funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m., with Rev. Wayne S. Krell, officiating, assisted by Pastor Ron Wagner.
Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery with military honors by the Mifflinburg American Legion Post 410.
