Roy E. Shifflet Jr, 73, of Mifflinburg, died on October 3, 2011. Roy, a longtime resident of Mifflinburg and native of Williamsport, was born on August 31, 1938 to Raleigh of Valrico, Florida and the late Christine (Lepore) Shifflet.
He is survived by wife Carol (Hart) Shifflet, whom he married May 30, 1959, in Williamsport, and two children, Michael and his wife Paula Shifflet from Lititz, and Melanie and her husband MarlinYoder of Mifflinburg.
In addition, he is survived by his three beloved grandchildren, Mark Shifflet, Kathleen Shifflet and Gabriel Yoder.
He's also survived by a brother, Joseph Shifflet of Buffalo; twin sisters Barbara Strumsky of Silver Spring, MD, and Patricia Maeulen of Williamsport; and triplet sisters Jodi Gerber of Frederick, MD, and Geri Kauderman of Valrico, FL. His other triplet sister, Jill Lusk, preceded him in death in 1995.
Roy received at diploma from Williamsport High School in 1956 where he played football and received a B.A. followed by a Masters from Bloomsburg State Teacher's College in 1960 where he also played football.
Roy began his teaching and coaching career at Loyalsock in 1960, and in 1964, was hired as the Head Football Coach at Mifflinburg. During his career at Mifflinburg he also coached girl's softball, girl's basketball, baseball, and wrestling; he was also the Athletic Director for several years. He also was a part-time assistant football coach at Bucknell University and at Susquehanna University..
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Roy will be conducted at 3 p.m., Sunday, at Rooke Chapel, Bucknell University, Lewisburg, with Rev. Ronald Warfle and Rev. Randall Fiske, officiating.
A time of fellowship with the Shifflet family will follow the memorial service in the Mifflinburg United Methodist Church Family Life Center.
