Sandra Hartman

Sandra L. Hartman, known as “Sandi” to her friends, entered into Heaven on November 14, 2017.   She lived in Mifflinburg her entire life.

She was born January 29, 1948, in Kelly Township in the original Evangelical Community Hospital, a daughter of the late George E., Jr. and Betty J. (Hommel) Sauers.  Sandi is survived by her beloved husband David H. Hartman whom she married in Honolulu, Hawaii on July 19, 1971.  Together they celebrated 46 years of marriage.

Sandi was a 1965 graduate of the Mifflinburg High School.

She was employed by Laurelton Center for 23 ½ years as an aide to the mentally challenged.  She regarded her clients as “her kids” and brought them to her home whenever she was able.  When Laurelton closed, Sandi worked at Harrisburg State Hospital for 18 months until her retirement.

Sandi was a faithful member of the Mifflinburg Alliance Church

Surviving in addition to her husband is a daughter, B. Janie Miller and her husband Steve, Mifflinburg and four grandchildren:  Ashley and Matt Freed of Middleburg; Angela and Eric Clayton of Milton; and Tate and Trent Miller of Mifflinburg.  In recent years, Sandi was blessed with three great grandchildren whom she adored.  Callen, Silas, and Scarlett are too young to remember their great grandmother, GiGi, but their families will teach them about the love that Sandi had for them and all of her family.  Also surviving are two sisters and brothers-in-law, Lynda E. and Tucker Smith, Lewisburg, and Cathy S. and Keith Moyer, Middleburg.

Sandi is survived by her loving mother-in-law, Anna Hartman, Mifflinburg, as well as her husband’s remaining siblings:  Daniel Hartman, Richard Hartman, Alice Reitenbach, Susan Hartman, Janet Snyder, Peggy Shields, and Lisa Hartman.  Sandi was predeceased by her brothers-in-law Donald and Roger Hartman and her sister-in-law and good friend Barbara Shrawder.

Sandi was an avid bingo player for many years.  Tuesday evenings you could find her at the American Legion in New Berlin with her many bingo friends who will miss her smile, laughter, and loyal friendship.

She enjoyed life and fought to live through cancer and chemotherapy, which weakened her body, but not her spirit.  Sandi was proud to be declared cancer free at the beginning of October this year, and was looking forward to many more years with her family, but God decided to call her home and give her rest.  The family is so thankful for the life He gave to her and for allowing us to love her.

The family wants to sincerely thank everyone who had a part in Sandi’s care.  You did your best for her and treated her with the utmost care and respect.  The staff of Evangelical Community Hospital and the staff of Geisinger Medical Center are very special to us.  Thank you for helping to get through a very emotional time in our lives.

Family and friends are welcome from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, at the Mifflinburg Alliance Church, 80 Church Rd., Mifflinburg, where the funeral will be conducted at 1, with Rev. Donald L. Hewlitt and retired Pastor Wayne Muckel, officiating.

Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery.
