LEWISBURG - Shirley Baker Schell, 74, of 108 Willowbrook Blvd., formerly of Laurelton, entered into rest after a lengthy illness at 8:35 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
She was born March 26, 1935, in Venango County, a daughter of the late Arthur Lincoln and Edith Viola (McKean) Baker. She was married to Richard Schell, who preceded her in death.
Shirley was employed as a nurse and as a supervisor at the Laurelton State Center for many years. Her loving nature and sense of humor made a great difference in the lives of the people for whom she provided care.
She was a member of the Union County Sportsmen's Club, Weikert, and greatly enjoyed fishing and being outdoors.
Shirley was a talented artist and left behind beautiful paintings and ink drawings. She also enjoyed traveling, gardening, bowling and being in the company of her many friends.
Surviving are one brother, James E. Baker, of Nashville, Ga.; one sister, Pat McElhattan, of Cyclone; eight grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sons, David, Robert and Steven Covert; one daughter, Kenda Freeborough; two brothers, Bill and Paul Baker; and one sister, Nancy Anderson.
Funeral services will be conducted privately at the convenience of the family.
Funeral arrangements are by the Roupp Funeral Home Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Road, Mifflinburg.
