Shirley W. Showalter, 94, Millmont
Shirley Wittenberg Showalter, 94, of Millmont, formerly of Strasburg, died peacefully August 3, 2012 at Rollings Hills Manor.
She was born December 15, 1917, in Terre Haute, Indiana, a daughter of the late Adelbert and Francis (Custer) Allen.
Shirley married Hubert H. Wittenberg, in September 1937, and raised four children while living in Strasburg. He preceded her in death.
For many years, while working at the Strasburg Pharmacy on the square in Strasburg, she met and befriended many people.
On February 16, 1980, Shirley married John W. Showalter, who survives, and lived with John and his family on his farm in Millmont.
She enjoyed many things in life such as baking, gardening, square dancing, reading, crocheting, knitting, music, and traveling, having visited 49 of our 50 States. Shirley volunteered for the Union County West End Library cooking turkey suppers and donut making at Lincoln Chapel and the West End Fair.
She is survived by eight children: Terry Wittenberg and his wife Shelby of Hartselle, AL, Dale Wittenberg and his wife Cindy of Lititz, Carol and her husband Leroy Gierke of Moses Lake, WA, John F. Showalter and his wife Margaret of Millmont, Steve Showalter and his wife Elaine of Danville, Mary Elizabeth and her husband Richard DeVett of Millmont, Rebecca Finsterbush of Glenn Iron; and David Showalter and his wife Lori Jo of Millmont; 20 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.
Shirley was preceded in death by one daughter, Sally Martin; two brothers, Claude Allen and Chellis Allen; and two sisters-in-law, Cay Allen and Helen Allen.
Friends and relatives will be received for a time of viewing and visitation from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Friday, at the West End Bible Fellowship, 19200 Old Turnpike Road, Millmont, where a Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 11 a.m., with Pastor Richard L. DeVett, officiating
Interment will be in the Lincoln Chapel Cemetery, Laurelton.

Funeral arrangements are by Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Rd., Mifflinburg.
