Sylvia E. Keegan

Sylvia Eldridge Keegan, 79, of Lewisburg, entered into rest at 9:03 a.m., Thursday, May 2, 2024, at home.

She was born May 2, 1945, in Yazoo City, Mississippi, a daughter of the late John and Juanita Eldridge and raised most of her childhood in Mobile, Alabama.  On August 3, 1968, in Mobile, Alabama, she married John (Jay) Joseph Keegan, Jr., who preceded her in death December 24, 2023.

Sylvia and Jay were married for 55 years. During Jay’s tenure in the Air Force, Jay and Sylvia lived in Alabama, Ohio, Hawaii, and the Philippines, before settling in Springfield, VA, where Sylvia was a secretary for a four-star Army General in the Washington, DC area.

She and Jay retired to Southport, North Carolina, and were proud residents of the St. James community where she took up the game of golf and spent time enjoying arts and crafts. Sylvia loved traveling alongside Jay and their friends all over the world and also enjoyed her many girls trips to places like Germany and New York City. She was a loving friend, wife, and mother.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, John J., III, and Lisa Keegan of Lewisburg; one daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Dan Montgomery of Pasadena, Maryland; two grandchildren, Kylie and Elle Keegan.

Funeral services will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
